The IPL 2025 season, which will begin immediately after the mega auction held in November last year, is one of the most eagerly awaited tournaments of the year. Hoping to win the trophy this season, franchises have retained their trusted players and also added new talent.
In such fierce competition, emotions often run high on the field. However, some teams have displayed remarkable composure even in difficult times. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is a prime example, having won the Fair Play Award six times. The iconic MS Dhoni, known for his calm demeanor and “cool as a cucumber” attitude under pressure, led the team to all six victories.
During IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won the Fair Play Award for the third time, although they finished runner-up under the strong leadership of Pat Cummins. On the other hand, defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have yet to receive the award, which is an interesting development in IPL history.
Winning the Fair Play Award signifies that a team has played cricket with honesty, discipline, and respect for the rules. It also reflects the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Specific guidelines are used to determine the Fair Play winner. In each match, the umpire can award a team a total of 10 points based on their behavior and conduct. When the season concludes, the team with the highest average points per game wins the Fair Play Award.
To date, there have been 18 IPL seasons, and Chennai Super Kings have won the Fair Play Award the most times, with a total of seven wins.
